Summary

An oblong-shaped object was sighted near Montezuma, Indiana, in September 1957. The witness described a disc-like object the size of a baseball, with a reddish-orange glow that occasionally brightened. It made no sound and appeared in the north, moving southeast before disappearing and reappearing heading west. After traveling about five miles, it turned north, held that course for two minutes, and then turned east again, vanishing from view. The report concluded it was likely an aircraft circling for a landing in Terre Haute. The observation lasted around ten minutes, and the witness used no optical aids.

The sighting location was recorded with precise coordinates, and weather conditions including wind patterns at various altitudes were detailed. Despite the detailed description, no photographs were taken and no technical data was available. The report was processed under Project 10073 and classified as a ground visual observation, with no radar or other detection methods used. Although the object displayed unusual behavior, such as disappearing and reappearing, investigators attributed it to a civilian aircraft, leaving some uncertainties unresolved.
