🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1957, a witness in St. Louis, Missouri, observed a metallic gray disc-shaped object moving near the horizon. The object, estimated to be 100 yards in diameter, made a circle and then disappeared. The sighting lasted around 10 seconds, though the official report mentions 7 seconds. The observer, a chemistry student, claimed no other aircraft were visible and described the sound as similar to a distant diesel engine. Despite the detailed description, investigators concluded there was insufficient data to evaluate the phenomenon with certainty.
A meteorologist noted that a weather balloon had been launched at the same time, but wind calculations indicated it wouldn't have reached the observer's location. This ruled out the balloon as a possibility, though a jet aircraft wasn't dismissed. With no physical evidence or photographs, the case remains unresolved, like many from that era.
