🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A 47-year-old Catholic priest observed a rectangular red-orange object near Carlinville, Missouri, on October 27, 1957. The object moved up and down for 20 minutes, maintaining a general direction. It was seen through 6-power binoculars, which can distort the appearance of clouds or celestial bodies. The official evaluation concluded the object matched the precise position of Venus, though the rectangular shape was unexplained.
Richards-Gebaur Air Base confirmed no aircraft or balloons were active in the area. Astronomical calculations and weather conditions supported the Venus identification. Despite initial confusion, available data indicate no unexplained phenomenon.
