🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A bright object was observed in Baker, Florida, on October 29, 1957, during sunset. Witnesses reported a round, shining object moving east for 15 minutes. Due to the time of day and weather conditions, investigators concluded it was likely a balloon. Upper winds could have explained its rapid eastward movement, while the sunset accounted for its brilliance. Although no photos were taken, the official report classified it as a probable balloon, ruling out other possibilities like aircraft or astronomical events.
The report, part of Project 10073, was filed without controversy. The observer's description, along with weather conditions and timing, supported the balloon hypothesis. There were no records of air traffic or other elements suggesting a more mysterious explanation. Despite the brief sighting, a detailed analysis of the available data allowed for a clear and reasonable evaluation of the event.
