🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In November 1957, a 33-year-old woman in Farmingdale, New York, witnessed an unusual luminous object. While driving on Bethpage Parkway, she saw a white light that remained about 100 feet in front of her car for several minutes. As she passed under a bridge, she lost sight of the object, but noticed her car radio turned off. Moments later, it reappeared surrounded by a flaming red mass as large as a car. Terrified, she accelerated toward it, and the object ascended and passed overhead. After exiting the highway, the radio turned back on. A later inspection of the site found nothing.
Investigators considered possibilities like a balloon, an astronomical phenomenon, or even ball lightning, but concluded the data was insufficient for a definitive evaluation. The most plausible explanation pointed to common interferences, such as radio disruption under metal structures. Despite the eerie nature of the event, there were no additional witnesses or evidence of other traffic in the area.
