🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In November 1957, a 45-year-old woman in Washington Island, Wisconsin, spotted an object in the sky that she described as larger than a star, pink in color, and moving northeast. The object was observed for about 6 minutes before disappearing over the horizon. Although initially considered a possible meteorite or jet, investigators concluded it was neither Sputnik nor a balloon, as the Soviet satellite was not in the correct orbit at that time. The sighting was made with the naked eye, without any instruments, which adds intrigue to the case.
The description and trajectory of the object created some confusion in the reports, with references to possible explanations such as a rocket exhaust arc or an astronomical phenomenon. However, no photographs were taken and there were no radar data to confirm the nature of the object. Despite the lack of conclusive evidence, the report was documented and sent to several air intelligence units, reflecting the concern of the time for any unidentified aerial phenomenon.
