In 1953, a scientific panel evaluated unidentified flying objects, and the resulting report was classified. Years later, in 1966, the CIA's Office of Security received a request from the Air Force to declassify part of this document. A conversation with an Air Force representative revealed that the interest had arisen after a CBS broadcast where the CIA's involvement in UFO analysis was mentioned. Although the revised report presented key conclusions, it omitted sensitive details such as original minutes and CIA participation. A new request was considered necessary to release additional information.
The CIA and the Air Force were working together to manage the declassification, and a new, more specific request was expected. It was highlighted that the Air Force was trying to declassify all U.S. government work on UFOs. Coordination between the two agencies was crucial to ensure documents were released appropriately while maintaining national security. This process reflected the growing interest in transparency regarding unidentified aerial phenomena.
