In November 1957, an observer in Massachusetts reported an object emitting red and white flashing lights, similar to a Grimes beacon. The object changed direction several times and disappeared when the observer tried to approach it. Although the possibility of a balloon or a reflection off a cloud was considered, no weather data was included to confirm this theory. The report concluded that the data was insufficient for a definitive evaluation.
The case was classified as insufficient for a clear evaluation, meaning that the nature of the object could not be determined with certainty. Despite no clouds being reported, investigators suggested it could have been a reflection of wing or tail lights from an aircraft off an unrecorded cloud. This type of phenomenon, although unusual, was common in reports from that era and often had no clear explanation.
