🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In November 1957, a civilian observer in West Port Washington reported a round, white, medium-sized object that remained stationary in the sky before fading. The observation lasted 15 minutes and no photographs or radar were involved. The witness, W. Paul Washington, described the object as fixed at 20 degrees above the horizon in the southwest direction. After analyzing the astronomical position, investigators concluded the object was not a balloon, an aircraft, or an unknown phenomenon, but Venus, the planet known as the Evening Star. This identification was supported by a senior controller who confirmed the astronomical plot.
