🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In November 1957, a luminous object was observed along the border between Texas and New Mexico. A witness described it as the size of a basketball, glowing in silver and red tones, rotating and descending toward the southwest. The sighting lasted 20 minutes, and the object disappeared just above the horizon. Although the possibility of it being Venus was considered, the official report did not reach a definitive conclusion. Several observers, including an air policeman and border patrol agents, reported the same phenomenon, suggesting a shared experience. However, the lack of photographs and the difficulty in identifying the object led to the tentative conclusion that it could be astronomical, though other explanations were not ruled out.
The report also notes that Venus was exceptionally bright at the time, generating public interest and being widely commented on in media and astronomy journals. Despite multiple sightings and reliable witnesses, the object could not be identified with certainty, reflecting the ambiguity surrounding many UFO reports of that era.
