🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1957, multiple sightings in Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio triggered a wave of UFO reports. The Air Force recorded calls from civilians and officials, describing a bright object in the sky. Although initially considered a balloon or aircraft, the official conclusion pointed to Venus, visible through a light haze. The phenomenon caused so much commotion that local media had to be involved.
The records show that SDO personnel received numerous calls throughout the night. An officer noted the irony of having to rely on the press to explain the event. The coincidence of multiple witnesses and Venus's astronomical position confirmed the object was not a UFO, but a planet. Despite this, the confusion in the documents highlights how celestial events can spark unwarranted alarms.
