🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1957, two distinct UFO sightings were recorded in Tampa, Florida, drawing attention from authorities. The first occurred on December 3rd, when a civilian witness described an egg-shaped object with white and flashing green lights, appearing pinkish. It was estimated to be 250 feet long and 100 feet wide. The observer claimed to have heard engines turning on and off, and the object hovered and made tight circles before disappearing over the horizon. Although considered possibly an aircraft, investigators were uncertain due to the unusual description and potential influence from publicity around similar cases.
The second sighting happened on December 4th at dusk. A witness described a doughnut-shaped object with a central propeller and three visible people inside. It was 40 feet in diameter and aluminum-colored. The object quickly rose and vanished. Authorities concluded it was a hoax, likely influenced by poor observation conditions or the observer's imagination. In both cases, no photos or independent confirmation were available, complicating a definitive evaluation.
