🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1957, an object was sighted near Nome, Alaska, by 36 civilian witnesses. The object, described as a red ball with a tail, moved in a straight line from south to north for about 20 to 30 seconds. Although initially considered a meteor, the reports also mentioned the possibility of a new Soviet or U.S. jet aircraft. The lack of radar and difficulty in investigating the area led to the incident being classified as "unknown." Several witnesses, including a dentist and a pilot, gave consistent testimonies, though with slightly different details.
The description of the object and its flat trajectory led investigators to consider several hypotheses. A meteor seemed plausible, but the possibility of a high-speed jet or even a V-2 rocket was also considered. Weather conditions were favorable, with clear skies and few clouds. Despite multiple sightings and testimonies, there was no confirmation of aerial activity in the area. The final conclusion was that the nature of the object could not be determined with certainty, and the case was left unresolved.
