In December 1957, a witness in St Louis, Missouri, observed an elongated object with a tail, the size of a baseball bat, appearing yellow or orange. The object was seen for 2 to 3 seconds and was moving in a northwesterly direction. The witness noted that the object seemed to separate at times before finally hitting the ground. Although it might initially appear mysterious, an investigation revealed that a meteor had fallen in the area, explaining the object’s appearance.
The sighting was recorded as a ground visual observation with no photographs or radar involved. The official report concluded that the phenomenon had an astronomical origin, aligning with the report of a meteor fall. This case is a classic example of how natural events, such as meteor showers, can be misinterpreted as unidentified flying objects.
