🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1957, several fishermen in Catalagzi-Kilimli (Turkey) observed a bright object leaving a blue trail. The object was moving rapidly westward near the horizon and was initially mistaken for a guided missile. A second similar object appeared a few seconds later. Although witnesses couldn't identify it with certainty, authorities concluded it was likely a meteor. Local press and radio also supported this theory, stating the phenomenon was of astronomical origin. However, the detailed description and speed of the object generated some curiosity.
The official report, though brief, records the observations of five to six witnesses and concludes there is no evidence to consider the object as a conventional aerial phenomenon. Despite doubts, the most plausible explanation seems to be meteorological. This case, like many others, reflects the difficulty of distinguishing between natural phenomena and unidentified objects, especially in the 1950s, when observation technology was limited.
