A red hazy object was observed on December 14, 1957, three miles north of Albany, Oregon. A witness described a round, hazy, reddish object that brightened and dimmed, appearing brighter on one side. Two bars 25 feet below the object resembled a wingspan. The observation lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes, but no photographs were taken.
A pilot was sent to intercept the object but found nothing except a bright full moon on the horizon. It was suggested the object could have been a mirage or a misinterpretation of the rising sun. Due to insufficient data, the evaluation concluded that the nature of the phenomenon could not be determined. Despite favorable visibility conditions, no clear identification was made.
