🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1957, an air base in Newfoundland recorded the sighting of a mysterious object. It was described as egg-shaped, the size of a pea, and red in color. It was both visually observed and detected by radar, which caused some confusion. Despite being reported as stationary, it moved 1.5 nautical miles in 8 minutes toward the northeast. Observers kept it in view for a long time, and it was still visible when the report was filed. Although photographs were taken, nothing appeared on the film, adding to the mystery.
Investigators concluded it was likely a balloon, as its behavior and flight path matched balloon patterns. However, the winds were coming from the northwest, making it unlikely for a balloon to move in the opposite direction. Despite initial doubts, the final evaluation pointed to a conventional explanation. The case, though lacking definitive confirmation, was filed without further incidents.
