🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In December 1957, a witness in Elizabeth City, North Carolina, spotted a red cigar or football-shaped object. The object was about 20 yards away and moving at a speed equal to or greater than a jet aircraft. Despite the lack of details like elevation angles or exact observation time, it was concluded to be an aircraft. The description and behavior of the object caused some confusion, as a balloon was not ruled out, although no balloon releases were reported in the area at that time.
The ambiguity of the report reflects the context of the era, where UFO sightings were common and often hard to classify. The lack of precise data and the object's speed contributed to uncertainty. However, the final evaluation pointed to a conventional aircraft, which did not prevent questions about the object's nature. This case, though inconclusive, is part of the rich history of investigations into unexplained aerial phenomena.
