🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1958, a crew of a U.S. RB-50 aircraft reported a bright aerial phenomenon over the Sea of Okhotsk, near the border between the Soviet Union and Japan. While flying at 15,000 feet, they observed a blue-green object with a trail of the same color passing close to the aircraft on a flat descending trajectory, disappearing with a whitish-yellow flash. The sighting lasted only a few seconds but was intense enough to be noted by multiple crew members. The reports concluded it was a bolide, a rare but known meteorological phenomenon, though the possibility of missile activity was not ruled out.
Later analyses indicated that the object's characteristics were consistent with those of a luminous meteorite or "bolide," phenomena that had been frequently reported in the region in previous years. However, due to the geographical location and the coincidence of dates with other similar sightings, the possibility of a missile was considered, though no conclusive evidence of military activity was found. The classified documents were reviewed by multiple military divisions, and it was ultimately concluded that there were no signs of hostile activity. Despite this, the case remains intriguing due to its strategic location and the coincidence with other sightings in the area.
