In 1958, a witness in Montevideo, Uruguay, reported an unusual aerial phenomenon that lasted 30 minutes. According to the account, the object had a disc-like shape and emitted sparks from its edges, with a noticeable fluorescent glow. Although the report mentions that no photos were received, the observer claimed to have clearly seen the phenomenon. The Center for Investigations of Unidentified Flying Objects (CI.O.V.I.) considered that, except for the sparks, the rest of the characteristics matched typical UFO features. The case was classified as insufficient for a definitive evaluation due to the lack of photographic evidence and the fact that there was only one witness.
The report also references a previous case in 1955 in the Tacuarembó department, where a photo of a flying saucer with similar characteristics was allegedly taken. However, the authenticity of that image was questioned. Despite the limitations, CI.O.V.I. considered it relevant to mention this precedent as part of the analysis. The observer's testimony describes an object moving in an unusual manner, with abrupt directional changes and a luminosity that drew attention. This case, though incomplete, is part of a series of observations that generated interest in Uruguay during the 1950s.
