🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1958, two U.S. Air Force officers reported seeing strange lights near Tokyo, Japan. The observers, Maj. Herbert M. Carr and Maj. Clayton F. Gray, saw 12 flashes divided into groups of 5, 3, and 4. The flashes were yellow or orange in color, between the size of a basketball and a bushel basket, and remained stationary for half a second. Although initially considered to be balloons or missiles, no definitive explanation was reached. The investigation suggested it could have been an experimental missile launch, but this was not confirmed.
The exact location of the flashes was about 25 miles southwest of Tokyo, and the observers were at 30,000 feet altitude. Visibility was excellent, with a thin cloud layer at 10,000 feet. The officers, with years of flight experience, described the sightings in detail. Although astronomical or aircraft explanations were considered, the most plausible conclusion pointed to a missile or rocket test. However, the final report did not reach certainty, leaving open the possibility of an unknown phenomenon.
