🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1958, multiple witnesses in Illinois reported an object resembling a meteor. Six observers, both military and civilian, described a luminous object with changing shapes and colors. Some saw it as a bright sphere, others as a flash emitting light. Colors ranged from reddish white to blue white, greenish blue, and orange. Most mentioned a curling smoke trail, but no sound was reported. The data aligned across locations and times, leading investigators to conclude it was an astronomical phenomenon, likely a meteorite.
The sighting occurred between 06:12 and 06:20, with witnesses spread across Scott AFB and surrounding areas. Despite variations in descriptions, the consistency of the data supported the theory of a meteorite. Additionally, no radar detected the object, and newspaper reports confirmed a meteorite was observed falling in the area. The lack of physical evidence and consistent testimonies reinforced this conclusion.
