🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1958, an observer in Marietta, Georgia, reported an unusual aerial object that caught attention for its strange appearance. He described a very thin object in the horizontal plane, slightly thickened in the center, reflecting sunlight like a mirror. This bright reflection appeared at one end, while the rest of the object looked like a thin beam of light. After the reflection disappeared, the object appeared as a thin brown line before fading from view. The report notes that the observer was an experienced pilot and air traffic controller, adding credibility to the description.
Investigators considered several possibilities, including balloons, aircraft, and non-persistent contrails. A balloon was ruled out due to the short duration of the sighting and excellent weather conditions, but a contrail from a turning aircraft was suggested. The report also mentions that contrail patterns can appear unusual even to experienced observers. Despite the investigation, no definitive conclusion about the object's nature was reached, leaving open the possibility that it was an unidentified phenomenon.
