In February 1958, several witnesses in Chiangmai, Thailand, reported the sighting of an unidentified flying object. The observation occurred around 6:10 PM and was described as a luminous object moving at high speed from west to east. Some witnesses mentioned that the object appeared like a ball of fire with a white or vaporous trail, while others described a rocket-like shape with colors such as white, orange, and black. Although some reported a hissing or explosive sound, most said they heard nothing at all.
Researchers from the U.S. consulate and local authorities conducted a search in the area, though it was not exhaustive due to the dense forest. A French priest provided a detailed description of the object, mentioning that it moved at an altitude of around 600 meters. Despite efforts, no physical evidence of the object was found. The investigation's conclusions suggested it could have been a balloon, an unidentified aircraft, or an astronomical phenomenon, but no definitive conclusion was reached.
