🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In February 1958, a bright round object was spotted in the skies above Bangor, Maine. Witnesses described it as large, grapefruit-sized, and moving up and down near the horizon. Although several people, including military and civilian observers, saw it, there were no precise details on its direction, elevation, or how it disappeared. This made it difficult to evaluate the report. Investigators suggested it could have been a balloon or even the planet Jupiter, but the lack of clear information left many questions unanswered.
Confusion was common in UFO reports of that era, where the absence of technical data and the presence of natural phenomena like planets or balloons complicated conclusions. The Bangor case was no exception. Despite some witnesses insisting it wasn’t a balloon, correlations with other sightings in the area pointed to that explanation. Either way, the incident reflects the uncertainty and fascination of the time with the unknown in the sky.
