🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In April 1958, a witness in Bakersville, North Carolina, observed an object described as a red-hued meteor curving toward Earth. The classified report evaluated it as a meteor, aligning with the decay of Sputnik II days later. Although the witness thought it might be the Soviet satellite, investigators concluded it was a common astronomical event. The original letter from the witness, full of enthusiasm and details, was sent to the Department of Defense for analysis.
The case was archived without further investigation, as it showed no anomalous features. Despite initial confusion, the testimony reflects the concern and curiosity of the Cold War era regarding space objects. The documentation includes military forms, letters, and an internal memo, all pointing to a routine evaluation. The testimony, though inconclusive, is part of the history of UFO reports during the Cold War.
