In April 1958, several witnesses in Burlington, Iowa, reported a red object with a fiery trail moving across the sky toward the north. The phenomenon lasted 4 to 5 seconds and was described as typical of a fireball. Although other possibilities like balloons or aircraft were considered, the official conclusion pointed to an astronomical meteor. The report was received by the local radio station KBUR, and around 20 people contacted to inform about the event. The description matched that of a bright meteor, leading investigators to rule out more conventional explanations.
