🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1958, a civilian in Willis, Virginia, reported finding strips of foil near their home. These strips, which fell during the night, were sent to ATIC (Air Technical Intelligence Center) for analysis. The individual contacted authorities, concerned about the unusual discovery, suspecting it might be related to an unidentified flying object.
The official response confirmed that the strips were radar chaff, a material commonly used in military operations to interfere with enemy radar systems. This type of material was often deployed during air training maneuvers. Although the initial discovery generated curiosity and concern, the technical explanation linked it to conventional military activities. The case concluded with a polite and informative reply from the responsible officer, addressing the civilian's concerns.
