🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In May 1958, an observer at National City Airport in California reported a sighting of an unidentified object. On the 23rd at 02:45 AM, a round, silver-white object was seen making vertical movements in the southwest. The next day, on the 24th at 10:30 AM, an oval-shaped object with red, orange, and white colors was seen circling in the southwest. Both sightings lasted about 10 minutes and were reported by civilians. Although a balloon was considered, it was ruled out due to the object's movements. It was also suggested that it could be an aircraft circling for landing, but it was not detected on radar and could not be confirmed. The case was ultimately concluded as having insufficient data for evaluation.
The lack of precise information, such as cloud cover or the object's size, complicated the assessment. The possibility of the object being a searchlight beam reflecting off clouds was also mentioned but could not be confirmed. The official report indicates that a definitive conclusion could not be reached, and the case was filed as "insufficient information." Despite this, the case remains intriguing due to the detailed description of the object's movements and the inability to identify it with the available means at the time.
