🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In June 1958, an unknown object struck the roof of a trailer home in Marshalltown, Iowa. The incident occurred between 9 and 9:30 PM, and the civilian witness reported a sound like a rifle shot. Upon investigation, he found several fragments, the largest of which was sent for analysis. The witness and his wife speculated it might be a meteorite, especially after hearing a radio broadcast about a Soviet satellite. The fragment was non-radioactive, but its origin remained a mystery.
The official report was sent to the 4715th Ground Observer Squadron, where it was logged as an unknown object. Various possibilities were considered, from meteors to aircraft, but no definitive conclusion was reached. The fragment showed no signs of radioactivity, and the Soviet satellite theory was dismissed. Despite the investigation, the origin of the fragment remained unresolved, adding a touch of mystery to this 1958 case.
