🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In July 1958, three bright, elongated objects were observed in the sky over Billings, Montana. Witnesses described cigar-like shapes with fuzzy outlines and a golden glow. Two objects approached the first, leaving a vapor-like trail, and all three eventually moved rapidly southward. The sighting lasted over an hour, but the objects vanished without a trace. Investigators concluded it was likely an optical illusion caused by sunlight interacting with scattered clouds.
The official explanation pointed to an atmospheric phenomenon, possibly a mirage or the interplay of sunlight with clouds. Although observers used binoculars and naked eye, there were no photographs or radar data to confirm the presence of real objects. The report noted that the position and movement of the objects were consistent with optical effects, not conventional flying objects. This experience, like many others, remains an unsolved mystery.
