A spherical object, the size of a pea, was observed in La Mesa, California, on July 27, 1958. The witness described a green copper-colored ball that was burning and left a bright green trail. The object fell to the ground, broke into two pieces, and then rose again before gradually disintegrating. No sound was heard during the event, leading investigators to conclude it was a fireball, a typical luminous meteor. While unusual for a casual observer, such events are common in astronomy and do not necessarily indicate the presence of unidentified objects.
The object's description and behavior matched those of a fireball. Additionally, the sighting area was within a restricted zone, prompting further investigation to rule out any coincidental launches or drops. Ultimately, there was no evidence of an unidentified object, and the phenomenon was explained as a natural event caused by a meteor entering the atmosphere.
