🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1958, a police officer in Tioga, North Dakota, observed a luminous object for over two hours moving slowly westward. He described it as a blurry sphere the size of a dime, changing color between blue-white and red. It showed no noise, exhaust, or trail, and moved between clouds. An astronomical calculation indicated Mars was in the position where the object was seen, suggesting a natural explanation. However, a fighter jet was sent to investigate without results.
The official report considered it could be a balloon, an astronomical phenomenon, or even an unidentified object. Although astronomers confirmed it was Mars, the observation generated interest due to rumors about lunar probe attempts. The final explanation was reassuring, but it didn't remove the mystery of the witness's experience.
