🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1958, a witness at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana reported a triangular-shaped unidentified flying object. The object, roughly the size of a volleyball, was described as bright silver and solid with no visible openings, propellers, or exhaust. The observer noted a whistling sound with varying pitch that rose and fell every five seconds, quieter than a jet engine. The sighting lasted about 30 seconds, and the object disappeared to the north at a 30-degree angle.
Although the base's radar detected an unidentified target for four sweeps, no intercept action was taken. The description was considered typical of an F-100 aircraft, but this didn't fully explain the observed characteristics. The lack of action led to internal criticism within the Air Force, as the unit was seen as ideally positioned to investigate the phenomenon. The report was filed without a clear conclusion, highlighting the confusion and limited interest from authorities at the time.
