In August 1958, three observers in different parts of New York reported seeing a V-shaped elongated object. The event occurred early in the morning and lasted about two minutes. The object, the size of a half-dollar, moved steadily in a straight path toward the southwest. Although initially considered a balloon or astronomical phenomenon, the report concluded it was an aircraft. However, the object's description and behavior generated some confusion.

The witnesses included a high school student and personnel from a naval hospital. All agreed on the object's appearance and trajectory.
