🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A military officer in New Port, Arkansas, spotted a bright object in the sky on August 14, 1958. The object, described as round and star-like, was glowing intensely and had the size of a half-dollar coin. The witness observed it for about 10 to 15 seconds before it disappeared instantly to the east. Although initially considered a possible UFO, investigators concluded it was likely a meteorite. Earth was passing through a meteor shower known as the "Derseids," which explained the phenomenon.
The witness's description matched typical meteor characteristics, including brightness, direction, and duration. Despite the brief sighting, there was no doubt about the object's nature. Weather data and the lack of radar activity supported the conclusion that it was not an artificial object. In summary, although the event was officially recorded, it was considered a common astronomical occurrence.
