🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In August 1958, a civilian in Birmingham, Michigan, observed a round, bright, bluish-white object moving in an ENE direction. The witness described it as larger than a star, glowing, and making a slight turn toward the north as it approached. The observation lasted three minutes and was recorded as a possible sighting related to Sputnik III, the Soviet satellite. Although there was no definitive confirmation, the data suggested it could have been a stage of this satellite or even the planet Jupiter, whose position matched the observers' report according to astronomical charts.
The atmosphere of the Cold War and satellite launches generated particular interest in sky phenomena at the time. This report, though lacking photos or radar confirmation, was taken seriously by military authorities. The lack of official confirmation and the possibility that it was an astronomical event or a Soviet satellite add mystery to this case. Nevertheless, the testimony of two former Air Force officers and the meteorological analysis make it a curious and well-documented incident.
