In August 1958, a witness near Bismarck, North Dakota, observed a white object resembling a balloon. The object appeared suddenly with a bright flash followed by a white glow. Initially stationary, it then slowly moved eastward. The sighting lasted 40 minutes, suggesting the object was at high altitude. The observer, a postal clerk, used binoculars to view the phenomenon.
Although the report mentions it was nighttime, astronomical records indicate the sun had already risen. This, along with the object's movement and the prevailing westerly wind, suggests it could have been a weather balloon. Additionally, balloon launches were occurring in the area at that time, supporting this theory. Post-analysis concluded the object was likely a balloon, not an unexplained phenomenon.
