🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A civilian engineer in Fort Monmouth, New Jersey, reported a bright object in the sky in August 1958. The object was described as a round sphere, bright orange in color, about the size of a pinhead. The witness observed it for 2½ minutes without seeing any exhaust or vapor trails. Binoculars were used to view the object, suggesting it was at a considerable distance. Despite the detailed description, investigators concluded it could possibly be an aircraft, though no definitive identification was made.
The area where the observation occurred is known for heavy air traffic, which complicated the identification of the object. The weather conditions at the time were clear and stable, with no interference. Although other explanations like balloons or astronomical phenomena were ruled out, the lack of photographs or additional data left the sighting unresolved. This case is part of the many UFO reports analyzed during the Cold War, where each sighting was carefully reviewed by military authorities.
