🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1958, near Aviano Air Base in Italy, a U.S. Air Force pilot reported a bright object resembling a light bulb. The object, described as very bright at the center and about the size of a pea, was observed from an F-100D at 37,000 feet altitude. Remarkably, it appeared in the same position on two separate sightings, eight minutes apart. The observers did not use optical aids, adding credibility to their account.
Investigators concluded the object could be a balloon, as it matched typical balloon characteristics. Additionally, it was confirmed that a balloon had been released in the area. Despite the object remaining visible for 10 minutes, it did not disappear or move, supporting the theory that it was a passive object like a balloon. The report, classified under Project 10073, was shared with various Air Force units for further analysis.
