🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In September 1958, a civilian observer in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania, reported seeing a round and extremely bright object in the sky for 20 minutes. Although no photos or radar data were taken, the report notes that the object did not behave like a balloon, aircraft, or known astronomical phenomenon. However, astronomical charts suggest that Mars may have been in the location described by the observer. The report concludes that there is insufficient data to evaluate the nature of the object with certainty.
The observer's description is brief but clear: a round, very bright object that remained in the sky for a considerable time. Although possible thunderstorm or lightning activity is mentioned, no other elements were recorded to help identify the phenomenon. The official report classifies it as "insufficient for evaluation," leaving the door open to alternative interpretations.
