Summary

In October 1958, a bright fireball with a whitish trail surprised the people of Montevideo, Uruguay. The phenomenon was seen by multiple witnesses, including journalists and students, who described it as unusual and mysterious. A local newspaper published an article detailing the event, sparking debates about whether it was a UFO, a meteor, a satellite, or simply a jet plane. The Center for Investigations of Unidentified Flying Objects (CIEVI) also documented the case, indicating it was not an isolated incident.

The Uruguayan Meteorological Service suggested it could have been a jet plane at high altitude, whose exhaust gases condensed into a visible contrail.
