Summary

A 1958 report describes the observation of 24 round, amber-colored objects, the size of a dime, seen in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The objects moved in two formations of 12 each, at very high altitude and heading southeast. An astronomer concluded they were likely meteors from the Arietid meteor shower, which occurs in October. The description, flight path, and duration matched typical characteristics of this meteor shower. Despite the clearly astronomical nature of the event, the investigation at the time sought to rule out other explanations, such as aircraft or unconventional aerial activity. Ultimately, there was insufficient data to consider any non-natural explanation.
