In December 1956, a witness on St. Lawrence Island, Alaska, reported an object emitting sound and light through an overcast sky. The object was traveling northeast and disappeared into the clouds. The observation lasted only five seconds. Another report from the Alaska National Guard in Gambell mentioned a lit trail at a very high altitude, also moving east. Both accounts coincided in time and description, suggesting the same phenomenon. Despite the matching reports, investigators concluded it could have been a meteor or moon dust, though a balloon or aircraft were not ruled out.
