🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
In January 1959, an oval-shaped object was spotted near Taft, California, by a civilian observer. The object, described as the size of a basketball, appeared at a distance of 50 to 100 yards and had a silver color. It was seen with a silver tail and a longer trail coming from underneath. The object maintained a constant flight level and disappeared after 4 to 5 seconds. Although it might initially seem like an extraordinary phenomenon, later analysis suggested it was a meteor, a hypothesis supported by the duration and description of the sighting.
The observation was made from an aircraft, which adds credibility to the report. The object was moving from southwest to northeast and made a sharp 90-degree turn before vanishing. The official report concluded it was an astronomical meteor, an explanation that fit the described characteristics. Despite the brief nature of the sighting, the collected data allowed investigators to rule out other possibilities, such as balloons or aircraft, and provide a coherent explanation.
