🇺🇸 USAF — Project Blue Book
A 1959 report describes an object observed over Ping Gung, in Formosa, which remained stationary for 30 minutes. It was described as a globe the size of a pea with red, green, and white colors. Although several aircraft attempted to approach at 0.9 Mach speed, they failed to make contact. Eventually, the object faded from sight. Observers concluded it was not a balloon, an aircraft, or an unidentified object, but matched the position of the star Fomalhaut, verified with astronomical charts. This case shows how UFO sightings can sometimes be resolved with simple tools like star maps.
The exact location of the sighting and the duration of the phenomenon are key to ruling out conventional explanations. The lack of physical evidence and the inability of aircraft to approach support the astronomical theory. This case is a classic example of how UFO reports, though initially mysterious, can have natural explanations when carefully analyzed.
