Summary

In February 1959, a luminous object was observed over Michigan, causing surprise among pilots and control towers. It was a round, bluish-white body traveling in a straight line before disintegrating. Initially thought to be an aircraft, the data pointed to a meteor. The duration of the phenomenon, 30 to 45 seconds, was unusual for a meteor, but not impossible. Several witnesses, including airport operators, agreed on the description, reinforcing the astronomical hypothesis.

Military and civilian authorities exchanged reports on the event, and although no photographs were taken, multiple sources confirmed the sighting. A newspaper report from the same day described the object as a "flaming meteor" that caused public alarm. Witnesses mentioned sparks and a clear east-west trajectory. Despite initial confusion, the most plausible explanation was a bright meteor, although its prolonged duration raised some doubts.
