Summary

In March 1959, the skies over Norfolk, Virginia, were lit up with strange flashes that caught the attention of both civilians and military personnel. A woman and her son, along with other witnesses, observed round, orange-yellow objects emitting bursts of light that illuminated the area like lightning. The flashes were brief, repeated, and sometimes occurred in rapid bursts. The witnesses described the objects as unlike anything they had seen before, with unusual shapes and behaviors.

After investigation, military authorities concluded that the flashes were caused by photo bombs dropped during night training exercises by the 363rd Tactical Reconnaissance Wing. However, the experience of the witnesses, including an artist who drew what she saw, added a visual and emotional dimension that could not be ignored. Despite the official explanation, the description of the objects and their luminous effects remained unsettling and difficult to explain with simple military artifacts.
