Summary

In January 1955, a civilian observer reported a rocket-like object with a glowing tail traveling rapidly from northwest to southeast. The object, described as blue-white to yellow, was about one-tenth the diameter of a full moon and showed incandescent balls falling off it, forming a tail. Despite its unusual appearance, investigators concluded it could be a bolide-type meteor, as sparks and fast movement are sometimes reported with such natural phenomena. There was no sufficient data to determine if it was a balloon, aircraft, or an unknown object.

The object's direction did not match that of a missile, and no launches were recorded in the area. The observation was brief, lasting between 25 and 40 seconds, and no instruments were used to measure elevation. Although the sighting was intriguing, military officials considered there was no conclusive evidence to classify it as an unidentified phenomenon.
