Summary

In April 1959, an Argentine naval officer reported an unidentified object seen from the ship *Río Cuarto*, located at 17.00°N and 66.50°W, at 02:30 GMT. The object emitted intermittent white and red flashes, moved southward at a uniform speed, and left no visible trail. It was observed for about 40 seconds before disappearing into the distance. Initially thought to possibly be a meteor, experts noted the observation duration was too long for one, suggesting the witness might have overestimated. It was considered it could be a balloon or aircraft, but no missile operations were recorded in the area during that time.

The report was sent to the Air Force headquarters at WPAFB, Ohio, and coordinated with several information centers. Ultimately, it was concluded that no missile firings occurred in the region during that period, and the object remained unidentified. The report was archived without a definitive resolution. Meanwhile, the same period featured a prominent astronomical display with Venus and Jupiter in the sky, and an annular solar eclipse that was not visible from the Americas.
